Week 3 on Ozempic
Dec. 13th, 2024 11:23 amI'm nearing the end of week 3 at the 0.25 mg dose.
Thoughts
Originally, I wasn't going to weigh myself until I was a month into my new diet, but I've learned I need to weigh myself weekly to gage what is working and what isn't.
Week 2 was stagnant. I just maintained instead of losing weight. It was disappointing, but I have to remember to take into account the extra weight I usually gain around menstruation time (UGH). I also changed the injection site, in theory it shouldn't matter, but based on my limited observations (I'm only three weeks into this) I think it might.
This week the hunger suppression was a bit more compared to last week, but it definitely wasn't as intense compared to week 1. The food portion lessons I learned in week 2 helped me to lose weight this week despite feeling so hungry, lol. Basically, I exercised greater food discipline this week. It also helps I'm not on my period, which causes me to binge on loads of food and bags of snacks.
I'm going to see if the hunger suppression goes back to week 1 levels when my dose is upped to 0.50 mg. If I'm doing the heavy lifting by discipling myself to eat much smaller portions, do I really need this drug? On the other hand, it does a fantastic job of regulating my blood sugar so I don't have those dreaded hypoglycemic 'I must eat or will die' situations that lead to overeating. Maybe I can try other diabetic drugs that don't have the severity or intensity of Ozempic's side effects.
Side Effects
The three most glaring side effects so far in week 3 have been severe constipation, fatigue and itchness/rash. The first 2-3 days are the worse. By Friday most of the effects of the drug have worn off (My weekly injections are always done around 9 pm on Saturdays). I've been taking magnesium and increasing my fiber intake to help with the constipation, not sure if it's working, because I started taking it towards the end of the week when the drug's effects are significantly lessened. The following weeks will help me determine for sure.
Another side effect I've noticed is having more trouble seeing. Vision changes are scary. I already wear glasses and without them I can't see. If my vision becomes further impaired I'm going to stop taking Ozempic. Ruining my vision isn't worth it. There are always other drugs like Mounjaro and Zepbound that uses tirzepatide instead of semaglutide as the active ingredient, to try.
I hope week 4 will bring greater weight loss and relief from the side effects.
