Yup calzephyr was right. The vector birds can be made into a decent logo.

Instead of only including two poses, I've upped it to five. If the birds were super detailed and naturalistically rendered, then two poses would be fine.

I've finalized all poses, offered a trimmed and non-trimmed illustrator version (for easy editability). Created the main preview image. Now I need to create a product mockup :)
