Week 6 on Ozempic
Week 6 was going along fine. I upped my calorie intake from 1000-1200 to around 1300+ because I was feeling awful. I thought I was doing great until I had a two day vomit fest, lol. Apparently, I was eating too much in one sitting and my GI just straight up started rejecting the food. Ozempic (and other GLP-1 medications) slows down the digestion process. So if you eat a moderate to large meal while on Ozempic the meal is going to take more time to digest properly. So if you decide to eat another good sized portion again while the food is still digesting/moving through the GI tract, well, problems like vomiting are going to arise.
The first warning sign was the dreaded sulphur burps. When you're nauseous and the burps smell like decayed egg it really doesn't help the situation. The second was that general uneasy feeling where you feel awful. The third warning sign was the hot flushing sensation like something bad is going to happen.
That was one of the worse vomiting I've ever had. The worse will always (I hope) be the time I had this awful stomach virus in high school. When I say I was vomiting every 30-40 minutes, I'm not lying. This continued for a good 24 hours STRAIGHT. At one point I had nothing to vomit, except clear mucus and small amounts of blood.
Thankfully, this time around I had a good 1-2 hours of respite between vomit sessions and I was able to eat and drink something, even if it was only toast and warmed up electrolytes (lol).
After the puke purge was over, I felt awful. It took me days to get back on the diet and exercise routine. I had to switch doing the elliptical from morning to night. I found my time is better maximized doing it at night since I feel better/more energic toward the end of the day. We'll see how that works at my next weigh-in.
